Inside Grip

1 / 7

  • The Grip card and app
  • Automatic fallback when a linked card declines
  • Spending limits across accounts
  • Payments in 200+ countries
  • Pooling money with other people
  • Locking the card from the app
  • Bill payments with the Grip card

Years of unbundling left the average Nigerian with five to eight fintech apps and money scattered across all of them. Grip put it back together. Link every bank card, account and wallet, then spend from all of them with one Grip card, virtual or physical, online and in 200+ countries. For fintechs without a card program of their own, Grip was one: integrate once, and their customers carried a card from day one. Grip ran profitably and successfully until 2024.

What it does

  • A free virtual card, and five physical card designs
  • Bank cards, accounts and fintech wallets linked behind one card
  • Fallback: when the primary account declines, Grip charges the next one automatically
  • Pooling: pay from several accounts in a single transaction
  • Spending limits per card, set daily, weekly or monthly
  • Lockdown, an instant security control over every linked account
  • Bill payments, and spending in 200+ countries
  • A card program as a service for partner fintechs

The Grip Black Pro card
The re-bundling bet
Customers kept every account they already had. Grip sat on top of them, so one card could always draw on whichever account had the money.
A card program for other fintechs
Fintechs without their own cards integrated once and gave their customers a Grip-powered card from day one.
Profitable until 2024
